Shelby Egnew
Shelby Egnew began dancing when she was three years old. She has loved it ever since, going on to study classical ballet under Suzanne Clifford in middle and high school in Sanford, NC. During high school, Shelby's family moved to middle TN and she continued training in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, contemporary/lyrical & hip hop under Angelika & Bruce Stegmann. During this time, she was able to assist in several ballet and jazz classes. She also gained experience teaching Jazz 2 and combo classes for the Stegmann's in 2014. Shelby also gained experience choreographing musical numbers for Out of the Box Children's Theatre at the age of 16. This experience helped her learn how to use dance & movement to tell stories. She now co-directs at Out of the Box Children's Theatre and continues to choreograph for them today.
Shelby studied Dance - Pedagogy at Brigham Young University - Idaho and was accepted onto their Collegiate Dancers team in 2016 and 2017. There, she was able to take courses in teaching methods, dance technique, kinesiology and dance history. In December of 2020, she graduated from BYU-I with a Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood/Special Education.
Shelby believes that movement and dance are essential for children's development and that it helps them orient themselves as they grow. She hopes to instill in her students a love for the arts and an appreciation for hard work, creative expression and the joy of dancing.
