Ashley Carney

Ashley Carney’s love for dancing began at age 13 when she took her first dance class and she has been in love ever since. In 2015, Ashley graduated from Belmont University with a major in English and a minor in dance. During her time at Belmont, she studied modern, ballet, tap, jazz, choreography, kinesiology, and performance under the instruction of Debbie Belue, Carrie Gerow, and Maggie Pelton. As a member of the Belmont Dance Company from 2012-2015, Ashley had the opportunity to perform in various shows and showcases throughout the Nashville community. In her time at Belmont, she was elected Dance Company Manager and awarded the Achievement in Dance Award and Scholarship as well as the Dean’s Award and Scholarship for Achievement in Dance.


Currently finishing her final coursework for her Master of Arts in Dance Education from the University of Northern Colorado, Ashley is set to graduate May 2023, after which she will hold a teaching certification in Dance (K-12) and English (9-12). Through this program, she has had the opportunity to take courses in Choreography, Dance History, Dance Curriculum Design and Assessment, and many other topics under instructors such as Sandra Minton, Christy O’Connell-Black, Rima Faber, and many others. Ashley’s thesis research is in the use of dance making methods to teach short stories and is set to be published at the end of 2022.


Ashley currently holds a certification in SugarFoot Therapy and continues to pursue additional
professional development opportunities and certifications. In her classes, Ashley hopes to instill in her students the importance of hard work, compassion, and a genuine appreciate for artistry in dance.
