Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms and will maximize technique and longevity in a career of dance. It provides grace, poise, and technique needed to be proficient in all other areas of dance. Ballet classes will help dancers with posture, flexibility, fitness, balance, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.
Modern/Contemporary class will incorporate many of the foundations of modern dance technique, including suspension and release, fall and recovery, the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement. Dancers will explore new ways of moving in combinations, floor work and partnering, and also in various methods of improvisation.
This class is a combination of ballet and jazz that challenges dancers to use choreography and movement to interpret music and express emotion. Dancers learn to express emotions derived from lyrics to convey the dance’s meaning.
Jazz dance is an exploration of style and presentation. Classes emphasize musicality and body alignment, conditioning, stretch and strengthening, rhythm and stylization. Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations.
Hip Hop incorporates a variety of old and new urban dance styles. The dancing represents body movements that go with the beat and rhythm of hip hop music. Hip hop dancing is very dynamic and helps the dancers improve flexibility develop body balance, and coordination.
Our preschool classes introduce young students to dance. The instructor uses games, stories, and songs to teach balance, rhythm, movement, coordination, and basic ballet steps. In Pre-Ballet class dancers will learn the basic ballet steps, beginning barre, and across the floor techniques. Our Combo classes introduce dancers to two different dance styles and technique.
Musical Theatre class will focus on learning to sing and dance while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Class curriculum is based on ballet and jazz technique layered with Broadway style jazz movement and includes a proper singing and dancing warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. Emphasis will also be placed on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions.
Our technique classes are designed to enhance our dancers by working on strength, flexibility, proper technique needed for basic to advanced skills. No choreography is taught in these classes, though short combos might be used to link skills together.

When children enter a Once Upon A Ballet class, they aren't just stepping into any ballet class. They get to BECOME part of the fairy tale as their dance activities take them through a fairy tale story--all while learning proper ballet technique, making friends, and having fun!
